Quote of the week...

"Some of the talking heads were rooting for a crisis in Ohio. It wasn’t just that they were afraid to admit we had won."

- Andrew Card, discussing election night coverage in a new book by Bill Sammon on President Bush's presidency entitled Strategery

While Maryland lawmakers raised more questions on ports security after operations at the Port of Baltimore were sold to a Middle Eastern company, Ehrlich said Friday he is more comfortable with the deal after talks with federal authorities. I. Domestic Surveillance and Spying Debate with Dems Wednesday - This Wednesday at 7:30 PM in Sever 113, HRC will go head-to-head with the Harvard College Democrats on the issue of domestic surveillance and spying. Come cheer our debaters on and bring your questions!

II. General Board Meeting - Wednesday - Later Wednesday night is HRC's next general board meeting, at 10 PM in the Leverett JCR. As always, a group will be meeting at 9:45 in front of John Harvard's statue to head over. Feel free to come even if you're not on the general board. Questions, contact Stephen (sdewey@fas).

III. Junior Parents Weekend Reception - Friday - HRC is hosting a reception for our Junior members and their parents this Friday from 4:30 to 5:30 in the Quincy JCR. This is a great opportunity to introduce your parents to one of your extracurricular activities! Warm hors d'oeuvres, cheese and vegetables will be served. Questions, contact John (souther@fas).

IV. Today - Military Appreciation/Support Meeting - Today in the Lowell Coolidge Room (near the Lowell dining hall, in the annex between the two courtyards) at 6, there will be a planning meeting for HRC's Military Appreciation And Support (M.A.S.H.) group. V. Thursday - Kerry Healey Fundraiser - This Thursday from 5 to 8, HRC will be helping out at a fundraiser event for the Kerry Healey for Governor Committee at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel. Former Governors Cellucci, Weld and Swift will be there, as well as Governor Romney. MassGOP events have always been very enjoyable in the past and we'd encourage you to come! To RSVP, email Jeff (jkwong@fas).

VI. Summers Survey - An unscientific survey is being conducted on students' opinions on President Summers and Harvard in light of his recent resignation. HRC is not sponsoring this survey, however we think your opinions should be heard. To fill it out, go to http://www.surveymonkey.com/s .asp?u=653951816083

VII. Buy a T-Shirt - You can buy an HRC T-shirt for $10 by emailing Mark Shepard at mshepard@fas.harvard.edu to arrange for payment and shipping/pickup.

VIII. Pay Dues - If you haven't paid your $5 dues for the year yet, you can do so by mailing it with your name and email address to Jeffrey Kwong, 1774 Harvard Yard Mail Center, Cambridge, MA 02138. Paying dues gets you a membership card, priority in our events and other benefits.
