I. Ken Chase Event - Today - Ken Chase, the Republican challenger to Ted Kennedy, is at Harvard for a special discussion today, and you're invited! Join us at 6:30pm this Monday, April 17, in Leverett JCR to show your support for the man who could unseat Kennedy! Questions? Contact Josh (jdowner@fas).

 

II. Conservative Book Club Meeting - Tuesday - The Conservative Book Club will be hosting its first meeting this Tuesday, April 18, at 5:00 p.m. in the Quincy Spindell Room (located at the back of the Quincy dining hall). The club is reading Manliness by Harvard's own Harvey Mansfield this month. It's not too late to join! E-mail Ryan (rmccaffr@fas) to join, and purchase your copy of Manliness from Ryan or on the Book Club's website: http://hcs.harvard.edu/~gop/cons_book_club.html. We are also in the process of planning a catered dinner discussion with Professor Mansfield, to be held during reading period.

 

III. Board Meeting - Wednesday - Mark your calendars for our general board meeting this Wednesday, April 19, at 10pm in the Leverett JCR. Feel free to come even if you're not on the general board. We will not be meeting at the John Harvard statue this week. Questions? Contact Stephen (sdewey@fas).

 

IV. Prefrosh Weekend Activities - Help the HRC welcome members of the Class of 2010 this weekend! Join us at noon this Saturday, April 22, for a prefrosh pizza and ice cream social in Harvard Hall Room 202, or volunteer for a shift at the activities fair from 3-5pm this Sunday, April 23, in Harvard Yard's Tercentenary Theater. Let's show the Class of 2010 our Republican spirit at Harvard! To volunteer for either or both events, e-mail Jeff (jkwong@fas).  

 

V. HRC Texas Night BBQ - April 29th - Join your fellow Republicans on Saturday, April 29, for a night of ribs, brisket, burgers, hot dogs, and poker! Following a barbecue at the bridge behind Leverett House, we will have a No-Limit Texas Hold-'Em Tournament. A $100 cash prize will be awarded for first place, and the cost for the entire event is $20. If you are interested in participating, please contact John at souther@fas.

 

VI. Join the HRC Softball Team! - HRC will be forming a softball team to play a game against The Crimson this spring, and this is your chance to join the action and crush The Crimson! Players of all levels and abilities are welcome, and feel free to recruit your ball-player jock friends as well! The game will take place on Friday, April 28, at 3pm, location TBA. E-mail Ted (tskowron@fas) with your name, house, year, preferred e-mail address, and glove hand (if you need a glove) as soon as possible if you're interested in playing for HRC.

 

VII. Schwarzenegger's Chief of Staff - Tuesday - Patricia Clarey, Chief of Staff to California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, will be holding two events at the IOP this week, and you're invited! Attend breakfast with her at the IOP this Tuesday, April 18, at 8:45 am to discuss "A Woman's Perspective to Working in Politics and Business" (RSVP to Amy_Howell@ksg.harvard.edu), or attend a luncheon at noon that same day on "Negotiations: Arnold Style" in room L166 at the IOP. No need to RSVP for the luncheon.

 

VIII. Relay for Life - HRC board member Christopher Beavers is running in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life in Boston this weekend in honor of his grandmother, who lost a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer last month. This is your chance to donate to his worthy cause! Christopher hopes to be the top fundraiser in the program, and with your help, he can make that happen. IX. Habitat Bike Challenge - HRC board member Matt Schrimpf will be representing Harvard and the HRC this summer in the Habitat Bike Challenge, riding 4,000 miles across the country to raise money and awareness for Habitat for Humanity. His goal is to raise a dollar for each mile of the ride. All donations will help to eliminate poverty housing and are greatly appreciated! X. Job Opportunities in Governor Romney's Office - The Office of the Governor has several full-time paid entry-level employment opportunities, including a Constituent Services Aide and Correspondence Aide, for current college seniors interested in serving in the Administration. XII. Pay Dues - If you haven't paid your $5 dues for the year yet, you can do so by mailing it with your name and email address to Jeffrey Kwong, 1774 Harvard Yard Mail Center, Cambridge, MA 02138. Paying dues gets you a membership card, priority in our events, and other benefits.
