Hello, Republicans! Check out the exciting HRC events coming up this week:
I. HRC Yearbook Photo - Tuesday - At 3:15 PM this Tuesday, October 31, in
Ticknor Lounge, Boylston Hall, HRC will be having a professional photo taken for
inclusion in this year's Harvard yearbook. All HRC members are encouraged to
attend; this is your chance to have a place in HRC history! The photo will take
no longer than 15 minutes. Please try to arrive a few minutes early. Feel free
to wear your HRC T-shirts! In addition, if you have any candid photos of HRC
members, especially seniors, that you'd like to submit to the Yearbook, please
e-mail them to Daren (stanaway@fas) no later than Tuesday night.
II. Bass Campaign Trip - Friday-Sunday - Join your fellow Republicans for a FREE
weekend getaway to New Hampshire to campaign for Congressman Charlie Bass! As an
added bonus, we will be attending an event with former New York City mayor Rudy
Giuliani on Friday evening! We will be leaving the afternoon of Friday, November
3, and returning the evening of Sunday, November 5. The cost of this event will
be completely covered by the HRC and the RNC, so this is a great chance to go on
a free trip to help the Republican cause. For more information or to sign up,
contact John (souther@fas) as soon as possible.
III. Phone Banking for Schwarzenegger and Activism Committee Meeting - Wednesday
- Join your fellow Harvard Republicans to phone bank for Arnold Schwarzenegger
this Wednesday at 9 PM in the Leverett Private Dining Room, and learn about the
HRC Activism Committee in the process! Be sure to bring your cell phones!
Questions? Contact Jeff (jkwong@fas).
IV. Social Activities Committee Meeting - Wednesday - Check out the exciting
social activities that HRC is planning this semester at the HRC Social
Activities Committee Meeting this week! The meeting will take place in the
Leverett Private Dining Room this Wednesday at 10 PM, right after the
Schwarzenegger phone banking. Questions? Contact Zach (zsmith@fas).
V. Dinesh D'Souza Event - Thursday - This Thursday, November 2, Dinesh D'Souza,
former Reagan Policy Advisor and current Hoover Institution Fellow and
best-selling author, will be speaking at Harvard on "why America is loved" and
"why America is hated." Don't miss this opportunity to hear one of America’s
most influential conservative voices! The event will take place at 8 PM in
Harvard Hall 201.
VI. HRC Executive Board Elections - November 15 - On Wednesday, November 15, HRC
will be holding Executive Board elections. The board positions and their
descriptions can be found at http://www.hcs.harvard.edu/gop/constitution.html.
Candidacy statements are due no later than 11:59 PM this Wednesday, November 1,
to Meghan (mgrizzle@fas). You may declare for as many positions as you would
like. Candidacy statements for President can be no more than 200 words long; for
all other positions, they can be no more than 125 words long. If you declare for
more than one position, you can only submit one statement. Candidacy statements
will be sent to all eligible voters after November 1. Because we are accepting
nominations from the floor for all positions, it is not necessary for you to
declare that you are running for a particular position. There are, however,
obvious benefits of declaring. If you officially declare your candidacy, you
will be able to send out two emails to eligible voters. More information on this
will be sent to declared candidates on November 2. Remember, to vote and/or run
in the election, you need to have paid your dues for this year and will need to
have attended two General Board meetings in the past calendar year by the time
of the election. If you are unsure of whether you have paid your dues, please
contact Jeff Kwong (jkwong@fas). If you are unsure of how many board meetings
you have attended, please contact Daren (stanaway@fas). If you have any other
questions about elections procedures, please contact Meghan (mgrizzle@fas).
VII. Christina Martin Study Group - Thursday - Join Christina Martin, former
Press Secretary to Newt Gingrich and former member of President George H.W.
Bush's administration, for her study group this week at the IOP! The study group
meets weekly on Thursdays from 4-5:30 PM in IOP room L-166. Contact Caleb (weatherl@fas)
or Christine (mikolaj@fas) with questions.
VIII. Election Night Party - November 7 - On the evening of Tuesday, November 7,
HRC will be holding an election night party in the IOP Forum. Join your fellow
HRC members for pizza and refreshments as election results come in on Fox News!
More details to come.
IX. Pay Dues - To become a dues-paid member of the Harvard Republican Club, send
a check for $5 made out to "Harvard Republican Club" via University Mail to
Jeffrey Kwong, Winthrop Mail Center 264. Be sure to include your name and e-mail
address in the envelope. Paying dues gets you a membership card, priority in our
events, the right to vote in our elections, and other benefits.
X. Buy a T-Shirt - Buy an HRC T-shirt to show off your Republican pride at
Harvard! E-mail Zach (zsmith@fas) to arrange for payment and pickup.
