Our vision falls into four areas.
Christian Scholarship
We are convinced that all truth is God's
truth. Pursuing truth, we "love the Lord with all our minds." Finding
truth, we find Him: his order, his holiness, his mercy, his love. And
so we seek to bring our work to our faith and our faith to our work,
believing that this will foster greater integrity and wholeness in
both, and in our lives. We also believe that we have been called to
our current work, that it is to be done in communion with God and in
fellowship with one another, and that we are to find joy in it. So we
encourage one another in that joy, standing against the prevailing
pressures of anxiety and competition. Since many of us will find our
vocation in academia, we hope to equip ourselves for a lifetime of
ministry within the context of faithful scholarship.
Spiritual Growth
Fundamental to a life of faith is the
cultivation of a vibrant and personal relationship with the Lord
Jesus. We seek to encourage one another to grow in our relationships
with Christ through the practice of individual and corporate
disciplines such as prayer, Bible study, worship and fasting. A richer
understanding and experience of God's nature and his immense love for
us enables us to abide more fully in the Lord Jesus Christ, bearing
the marks of his character as visible signs of our close walk with
Him.
Christian Community
Our faith finds its greatest encouragement
and fullest expression within the context of a diverse community. In
calling us to himself, Christ calls us to come together from many
different backgrounds and nations. From the rich spectrum of
personalities, experiences, and talents of graduate students at
Harvard, we hope to see God forge a community characterized not only
by unity, understanding, and support, but also by accountability and
by the challenge to grow collectively as followers of Christ. Indeed,
such a community is essential for all our objectives: personal
spiritual maturity, bold corporate witness, and the development of
Christian scholars. Finally, recognizing we are members of the larger
body of Christ, we encourage one another to participate in the local
churches.
Witness and Service
Having experienced God's goodness, we seek
to bear joyful and visible witness to Him by declaring His truth. We
believe God's truth is truth for all and wish to invite the Harvard
community to explore it with us. We also believe that God's truth is
more than words. It leads to a passionate concern for justice and
righteousness, compassion for others, lives of humility,
self-sacrifice and service. Through both our lives and our words we
seek to make commitment to the Lord Jesus a visible, viable, and
compelling call for everyone at Harvard.
