Re:Proposal for regular evaluation of student progress.

Please find enclosed a proposal from the Graduate Student Council to introduce a regular procedure for the review of graduate student progress. Such reviews will provide students with feedback on their progress towards the Ph.D. and ensure that students and advisors agree plans for future work. The Council has considered ways to review student progress and the 'G-10 rule' at several meetings over the past year, and it approved a report on these issues at its February meeting. Following discussion of the report by the GSC Officers and GSAS, we agreed to present the enclosed proposal for consideration by the Committee on Graduate Education with a view to making it FAS policy if approved by the CGE. Adam Fagen, the GSC President, and I discussed and agreed the details of the proposal with Garth McCavana, the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs.

I look forward to discussing the proposal at our next committee meeting.

Best wishes,
Paul Callan
Secretary, GSC
