The Graduate Student Council (GSC) of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) at Harvard University is pleased to announce the recipients of the second annual Excellence in Mentoring Awards. This year's recipients will be honored at a reception on Thursday, May 4. The reception will include remarks by students and University officials, including Provost Harvey V. Fineberg and GSAS Dean Christoph Wolff. The reception will be held from 6 to 7:30 pm in the Graduate Student Lounge on the mezzanine level of Dudley House. Everyone is welcome to attend.

This year the GSC received more than 80 nominations from graduate students in GSAS for more than 40 individual faculty members. The Awards Committee of five students selected the following five faculty members as recipients of this year's Excellence in Mentoring Award:

• Nalini Ambady, Ruth and John Hazel Associate Professor of the Social Sciences (Department of Psychology)

• N. Michelle Holbrook, Thomas D. Cabot Associate Professor of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology

• Jesse Matz, Assistant Professor English and American Literature and Language

• Katherine Newman, Malcolm Wiener Professor of Urban Studies, John F. Kennedy School of Government; Chair, Joint Ph.D. Programs in Government and Social Policy and in Sociology and Social Policy

• Kathleen Valley, Associate Professor, Harvard Business School (Ph.D. Program in Organizational Behavior)
