Conference and Research Grants
To enable conference attendance and summer research, the GSC offers grants on a competitive basis to GSAS students enrolled full-time in degree-granting programs or as special students. To be eligible, a student must have paid the GSC fee and the student's department must be represented at monthly GSC meetings.

Conference grants, awarded in October, January, and May, are intended to cover some of the expenses incurred while attending conferences. They award up to 60% of total allowable expenses, not to exceed $700. Summer research grants of a minimum of $750 are awarded in May for summer research. They are given as a stipend and do not require receipts.

Application deadlines for the 2001-2002 academic year are:

Fall Conference: October 15, 2001
Winter Conference: January 7, 2002
Spring Conference: May 6, 2002
Summer Research: May 6, 2002

All paperwork must be received at the GSC Office by 5pm on applicable deadline dates. Guidelines and applications are available at the GSC office and at http://www.hcs.harvard.edu/~gsc/grants. Grant meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month, beginning in October.

GSAS Student Group Funding
The GSC provides funding for recognized GSAS student organizations. The funds are allocated at monthly GSC meetings, upon recommendation of the GSC Funding Committee. Guidelines and forms are available at the GSC office and at http://www.hcs.harvard.edu/~gsc/orgs.

In order to secure GSC group funding, student organizations must be recognized by the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. Contact Susan Zawalich, advisor to GSAS student organizations and Dudley House Administrator (see GSAS Administrators and Staff), for information about the process. After recognition has been obtained from the Committee on Graduate Education, organizations must follow the procedure for group funding. Groups receiving funds from the Graduate Student Council are required to indicate GSC sponsorship in their publicity efforts. Failure to do so will be a factor in determining future GSC support of that group or activity. Groups are also required to make an effort to publicize their events to the entire GSAS community, particularly through the use of the GSAS Bulletin and the appropriate bulletin boards in Dudley House. Student organizations are also encouraged to take advantage of the many publicity resources throughout the University. Complete requests must be submitted to the GSC Office at least two weeks prior to the monthly GSC meeting at which you wish a request to be considered. Each request must include FORM 1, with either FORM 2 or FORM 3 (as appropriate) as well as a budget that is as detailed as possible. Retain copies of all documentation for your records. Forms and complete information are available from the GSC office or web site.

GSC Computer Facilities
The Graduate Student Council offers free laser printing for its members (once again: students who have paid the GSC fee) in the Dudley House Library, on the third floor of Lehman Hall. The printing facility has a Macintosh and PC, both connected to a laser printer, and is available during library hours. Users must present their GSAS ID and reserve a time slot. Slots last 15 minutes.

GSC Social Events
Graduate student-parents and their families are invited each term to the Student Families Brunch, an informal opportunity for students with families to get together, know one another, and share stories common to students with families. There is entertainment for the kids, food, and fun for all.

GSC Information Net
The GSC office is located on the Mezzanine Level of Dudley House, Room M4 (just off the Graduate Student Lounge and the north stairwell). Its phone number is 495-7512.
