- Announcements
- GSC Conference and Summer Research
Grants: Application deadline is Monday, May 10. Completed
applications are due in the GSC Office by 5:00 p.m.
- GSC Excellence in Mentoring Awards:
The GSC received 205 for 85 faculty members. The award will be presented
at a reception Thursday, April 29, at 5:00 p.m. in the Graduate Student
Lounge. All are invited to the reception.
- GSAS Commencement Marshal Nominations: Nominations for A.M.
candidates are still being accepted. Selection is based on Harvard
community involvement and service to graduate students. To nominate
someone (you may self-nominate) contact your department administrator
ASAP.
- GSC Student-Parent Brunch: NOTE DATE CHANGE: Sunday, April 18,
11 a.m.-1 p.m. in Dudley House. Food, fun and entertainment for parents
and their children will be provided.
- Last GSC Meeting of the Year:
Wednesday, May 5, 5:30 p.m. in the Graduate Student Lounge, Dudley
House.
- Matters Arising
from the minutes
of March 1999 meeting
- The Mathematics was incorrectly listed as not attending the March
meeting. The Mathematics department did send a representative to the
March meeting.

- Discussion: Student Group Funding
- The Canadian Club brought up student group funding issues. The need
for more explicit funding eligibility guidelines was discussed. Questions
about unspent GSC student group funding money were also raised.
- Committee Reports
- FAS Library
Committee: About half a million books from Widener have been been
permanently moved to the depository.
- Harvard Graduate
Council: The HGC is palnning a Fun Run on
Saturday, April 17. Tickets are available at the Dudley House Office.
- Ad-hoc Group Meeting with Dean McCavana and Ellen Fox: The
GSAS Student Affairs Office is sponsoring seminars on finding off-campus
housing.
- Discussion: Proposed changes to the GSC Constitution and Bylaws
RESOLVED: The changes were accepted as discussed in the last (March) meeting.
- Discussion: GSC attendance to the NAGPS
Northeast Regional Conference
- Meeting to be held April 9-11, Penn State University. Attendance at
this meeting was open to GSC members. No members were able to attend.
- Discussion: Harvard Graduate Council Basketball League
- The HGC requested $500 from each Harvard graduate school, included
GSAS, to fund a basketball league. The request for $500 was approved.
- Discussion: Editorship of GSAS Student
Survival Guide
- Since editing the Guide is a large time investiment, the GSC discussed
financial compensation for the editor.
RESOLVED: The GSC approved compensation for the editor of the Survival Guide. A committee will determine
the amount and form of the compendation.
This committee is made up of: Adam Fagen, Heidi Kyser-Genoist, Carlos
Lopez, and Ian Richmond.
