Apply to be on the Habitat for Humanity Board!
Harvard Habitat for Humanity is now accepting applications for several open board positions! Even if you haven't worked with Habitat before, don't be discouraged to apply! We're looking for a group of individuals with dedication and a vision for the organization.
To Apply:
Email
harvardhabitat@gmail.com if you are interested. Specify which position you are interested in interviewing for, your name, and class year and we'll contact you soon! Interviews will be held over the first two weeks of February. Please direct any questions to the same address.
Open Positions:
Technology Chair - The primary responsibility of this position is updating the website with trip applications, weekend trip dates, pictures, links about the countries and sites visited, Habitat board member biographies, and meeting minutes. He/she is responsible for maintaining an updated email list-serv. It is a very proactive job.
Campus Events Chair - This is a new position on the Habitat board. This person will be in charge of several projects throughout both semesters related to campus outreach. He/she will coordinate events for a Housing Awareness Week, organize reunions for trip participants, and plan study breaks. With the help of the board, this person will have a lot of flexibility for fun and creative events.
Trips Liason - This person is the liason between the board and the trip leaders for spring break trips. He/she will assist international trip leaders in coming up with trip-specific fundraisers to enable their participants to raise the money needed to go on their trip. He/she will also make sure that trip leaders are aware of travel logistics and are raising money on time.
External Relations - The person filling this new board position will be the liaison between Harvard Habitat and our umbrella organization, PBHA. He/she is expected to foster a positive relationship with PBHA, as well as work on increasing the campus visibility of Habitat by volunteering Harvard Habitat to co-sponsor campus events consistent with our mission, as well as pursue new relationships with on-campus resources and organizations.
Weekend Trips Coordinator - This person will work with one other weekend trips coordinator to develop relationships with local affiliates and learn the process of putting together weekend build dates. The two coordinators will alternate being responsible for organizing approximately 10 weekend builds, including finding a local affiliate and recruiting volunteers. A perfect position for someone who wants to learn more about Habitat before taking over!
Publicity Coordinator - This person is in charge of designing advertising materials for all Habitat sponsored events. He/ she is involved in recruiting new volunteers and in charge of publicizing the application process. The job involves lots of postering, emailing, and design, with the help of other board members. This job is especially important when the academic year starts; the publicity coordinator must publicize our trips, have a presence at activities fairs, conduct information sessions, send out emails to the house lists, etc.
Summer 2007 Director - This is not a board position, and someone who occupies a position on the board during the academic year may also be the Harvard Habitat director in summer 2008. The summer director is responsible for leading 8 volunteers to organize, prepare for, and run the Stuff Sale, Harvard Habitat's largest fundraiser (netting over $50,000). He/she will also run local trips every Saturday, as well as facilitate Habitat's relationship with the Coop and Harvard Recycling over the summer. The summer director is the organizer and face of the organization for three months.

Apply for a Habitat Spring Break Trip!
Spring Break Application
This year Harvard Habitat for Humanity will be hosting three spring break trips to Myrtle Beach,
South Carolina, Tutwiler, Mississippi and New Orleans, Louisiana. Trips will leave on Saturday, March 25th
(the first day of spring break) and return on Sunday, April 2nd (the day before classes resume).
At these sites, we will be working with the local affiliate to build affordable housing for those in need.
Accomodations will most likely be the floor of a church or a volunteer center.
Participants will work from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday and should have time
afterwards to explore the surrounding area. Trips to New Orleans and Tutwiler,
Mississippi will be flying, while the trip to Myrtle Beach will be driving.
While these trips are free of cost to the participant (including entertainment and meals),
we do ask that participants going to Tutwiler and New Orleans put down a deposit to cover
the cost of their plane ticket (about $300) and that participants traveling to Myrtle Beach
put down a $200 deposit. If you go on the trip, the deposit will be returned, however, if you cancel,
the check will be cashed. The application is available by clicking on the link above.
Questions? E-mail flavin@fas.harvard.edu.
