Dear Delegates, Faculty Advisors and friends of HACIA,

On behalf of the HACIA Democracy Board of Directors and Staff, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 18th annual installment of the Summit of the Americas. My name is Beñat Idoyaga and it is an honor for me to serve as HACIA 2012's President.

Last March, more than five hundred high-school students, teachers and parents from all across the Americas attended the annual HACIA Democracy Summit of the Americas in Quito, Ecuador. After an overwhelmingly successful first time hosting our conference in South America, this year HACIA has taken on the challenge of organizing the largest conference ever; with new exciting committees and enhanced opportunities for our delegates to engage with the most pressing issues currently affecting the Western hemisphere.

Over the last seventeen years, HACIA Democracy has consolidated itself as the most prestigious OAS simulation in the continent. We truly believe that HACIA Democracy is an unparalleled forum for students across the continent to learn and debate about the problems that affect the region and thus prepare themselves to be the future leaders of the Americas.
