Hello everyone!

I'm writing to let you know that Holoimua o Hawai`i, the Hawai`i Club of Harvard, will be holding a conference February 7th-9th. The conference is entitled "Mixed Plate: Is Hawai`i America's Tomorrow?" and we'd like you all to come!

WHAT IS THE CONFERENCE ABOUT?

The conference has three primary objectives:

1. To gauge participants' thoughts and ideas on the current and future state of race and ethnic relations in Hawai`i.

2. To discuss possible contributions Hawai`i's experience may have on the understanding of race and ethnic relations in general.

3. To provide students, by the end of the conference, with enough information so that they may be able to better understand race and ethnic relations in Hawai`i and the implications that it has on their own lives.

4. To provide a place for students from Hawai`i and around the world to learn and to celebrate Hawai`i's culture.

WHO WILL BE SPEAKING?

The speakers at this conference will be Mari Matsuda, Eric Chock, and Franklin Odo. We are in the process of raising funds to have Mufi Hanneman, Puanani Burgess, and/or Gregory Marks, speak.

WHERE WILL I BE STAYING?

You will be staying with people from Hawai`i at Harvard. You will most likely need to bring a sleeping bag or an equivalent. Some rooms may have available futons.

WHAT DO I DO NOW?

Please forward this message to other people from Hawai`i at your school and at other schools in the area. To better communicate with people at the many schools in the area, please select a liason from your school. This person will make conference arrangements with us for people at his school who are interested in attending the conference. Having a liason from each school will help us to organize accomodations for conference participants.

In order to find adequate housing arrangements for conference participants, we need to know the names of those interested in coming by DECEMBER 13TH. The conference fee is $15, so a check for this amount should be postmarked no later than this date. Details will be discussed with school liasons. Please send emails to hawaii@hcs.harvard.edu.

WHAT IF I HAVE QUESTIONS?

If you have any questions about the conference, please don't hesitate to email us at hawaii@hcs.harvard.edu, and someone will email you promptly. For more information, you can visit our website, which is currently still under construction, at http://www.hcs.harvard.edu/~hawaii/.
