Brief History

A relatively young organization, we were founded in 2004 by Jeffrey Ma and Peter Lee, who envisioned the club as a place that helps build a more tight-knit engineering community at Harvard and supports exciting side engineering projects. The first project they chose was RoboCup (autonomous robotic soccer) for its favorable history, its strict deadlines, and its requirement of integrating mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science.

'08-'09 Goals

Now in our third year of operation, we are trying to branch out to activities other than RoboCup. We have certainly come a long way since the beginning, but we hope to finally realize our original vision of supporting all kinds of endeavors in engineering and computer science.

Our goals for the 2008-2009 academic year include:

  • Obtaining funding for RFC Cambridge to continue our robot-building endeavors.
  • Obtaining funding for other student projects.
  • Improving resources available for extracurricular student engineering projects. This includes:
    • Getting all students access to the latest edition of the SolidWords CAD tool.
    • Improving machine shop access for student not enrolled in machining courses.
    • Providing tools/other facilities for students interested in pursuing projects.
  • Continuing the HCES Lunches with Professors series.
  • Reviving the Women in Computer Science dinners.
