15 September 2011 On Thursday September 15th, the Harvard Graduate Student Canadian Club will be hosting our annual Fall Welcome BBQ. It will take place on the lawn in front of Richards Hall (the GSAS dorms, across from Harkness Commons), from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Just look for the big Canadian flag or follow your ears to where the Canadian music is blaring. 24 October 2010 Big fan of Leonard Cohen? Never even heard of him? People of all levels of Cohen knowledge are invited to a Leonard Cohen Appreciation Night on Monday, 1 November from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. at the Dudley House Fireside Room. The evening is centered around a talk by noted Harvard Leonard Cohen expert Seth Stephens-Davidowitz, with Canadian Jewish refreshments, songs, and poetry. Formal attire is recommended but not required. 15 October 2010 Our first monthly Canadian Meet-up is happening on Thursday, 21 October from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the Cambridge Queen's Head Pub (Loker Commons, beneath Memorial Hall, 45 Quincy St.). It will be a casual evening of meeting other Canadians and maybe forming some teams for the 8:00 p.m. trivia game! Monthly meet-ups will be happening on the second last Thursday of every month this year. Hope to see you there! Thank you to all the amazing volunteers that made Thanksgiving dinner such a success! We had more dishes and attendance than we expected, and the generosity of cooks, food smugglers, turkey roasters, set-up and clean-up volunteers, beverage donors, and turkey carvers ensured that everything ran smoothly. Some tupperware was left behind - if you are missing yours, please contact Pan-Pan Jiang. If you're a cook who did not submit your food and cab receipts to Pan-Pan, please contact her for reimbursement meeting! 3 October 2010 Canadian Thanksgiving is coming up, and we're serving up a huge feast once again on Monday, October 11th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. We're looking for volunteers to make side dishes and give our 12 turkeys a home in their oven for the event. Please contact email@example.com if you can help make this event happen! We will reimburse you for all your efforts, and no experience is necessary. This event is in collaboration with the MIT Canadian Club. 5 September 2010 HGSCC's annual Fall Welcome BBQ is taking place from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. this Thursday, September 9th on the Richards Hall lawn (GSAS dormitories), across from Harkness Commons. Feast on hamburgers, hot dogs, vegetarian options, snacks, and drinks (we will be serving up our usual Canada cake!), and meet other Canadians on campus! Looking forward to meeting you! 17 April 2010 It's a poutine party! In collaboration with the Harvard College Canadian Club, we will be serving up delicious french fries drenched in gravy and cheese curds on Saturday, 24 April at 8:00 p.m. at the Queen's Head Pub. HGSCC is once again hitting the curling rink in Petersham on Saturday, February 27th from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. followed by watching the men's gold medal Olympic curling game in the Dudley Graduate Student Lounge. To sign up for the trip, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org and confirm your spot with a $25 cheque made out to the Harvard Graduate Student Canadian Club in the HGSCC mailbox (3rd floor of Dudley House). Watch the Olympic men's hockey gold medal game with your fellow Canadians on Sunday, February 28th at 3:00 p.m. in the Dudley House Games Room (3rd floor). Hopefully Canada will be in the finals! 27 January 2010 HGSCC, Canada GSD and MIT Canadian Club are hosting an expatriate tax presentation on Tuesday, 16 February 2010 from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at 510 Gund Hall, 48 Quincy Street. This is a great opportunity to learn about your tax requirements, as well as ask individual questions! Speaker bios and presentation details are available on the events page. 10 October 2009 HGSCC and the MIT Canadian Club are hosting a Canadian Thanksgiving dinner on Monday, 12 October 2009 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Dudley Dining Hall (Lehman Hall, right across from the Harvard T-stop and in the Yard). Thanks to our wonderful volunteer chefs, we will have plenty of turkey, vegetables, mashed potatoes, and desserts! 26 August 2009 Our annual Fall Welcome BBQ is set for Thursday, 10 September 2009 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on the Richards Hall lawn, across from Harkness Commons. We'll provide the food (veggie options available) and the drinks. You bring your Canadian smiles. See you on the lawn in red and white! 24 March 2009 It's a Poutine Party! Get your fill of french fries, gravy and cheese curds at the Graduate Student Lounge (2nd floor mezzanine of Dudley House) on Thursday, 2 April 2009 from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. Hope to see you there! 31 January 2009 The HGSCC 10th Annual Curling Bonspiel is happening on Saturday, 7 February 2009 at Petersham Curling Club! We will be leaving campus around 1:00 p.m. and return by 9:30 p.m., sated from an afternoon of curling lessons, curling matches, dinner and Canadian company. The cost of the trip is $20, but if you have a car and can drive yourself and at least three other people, you get to go for free! See you on the ice! 11 November 2008 The Harvard College Canadian Club is hosting a Remembrance Day service at 10:45 a.m. on the steps of Memorial Church (Old Yard). Poppies are available for pick-up in the HGSCC mailbox, 3rd floor of Dudley House. They will also be available at the service. See you there! 28 October 2008 The first Canadian Movie Night will be happening at William James Hall, Room 105 from 7:15 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. We will be screening Tales from the Gimli Hospital (1988) directed by Guy Maddin! A brief synopsis and review of the film are on the events page. 13 October 2008 Thank you to everyone who showed up for the Canadian Thanksgiving dinner tonight! Thank you especially to the amazing cooks who contributed such a diverse range of delicious food, and the wonderful people who helped set up and clean up after the event.
