ANTI-WAR WALKOUT PLEDGE
![]()
We, the undersigned students and faculty of Harvard University, are opposed to an invasion of Iraq by the
United States and pledge our participation in a campus-wide walkout if and when an invasion begins.
We believe that inadequate justification has been offered for a war that will likely kill
thousands of innocent people, obliterate a nation already in devastated by war and sanctions,
nourish the roots of terrorism worldwide, widen the divide between our country and the
global community, and channel billions of dollars away from social programs and humanitarian
aid. For these reasons and more, we pledge our resistance to the efforts
of the Bush administration and its military and corporate backers to lead our country to war with Iraq.
Although we believe that organized opposition can prevent this war, we will not stand
by idly if such unnecessary slaughter and destruction is committed in our name.
As a statement of our resistance to war in Iraq, we hereby pledge
to join thousands of others across the country in walking out of our classes and
into the streets at 12:30pm on the first weekday after war officially begins. We will converge at the
John Harvard Statue and demonstrate against the invasion.
