While the anti-war movement continues to gain momentum, with thousands more people every week demonstrating against a "pre-emptive" war, the Bush administration keeps its crosshairs relentlessly locked on Iraq.

Anti-war activists are therefore not only stepping up their tactics, but around the globe they have already begun preparing massive protests to coincide with the start of a potential US invasion of Iraq. As part of this effort, college and high school students nationwide are organizing walkouts on their campuses in the case of a US invasion of Iraq.

Although we believe that organized opposition can still prevent this war, we will not stand by idly if such unnecessary slaughter and destruction is committed in our name. With an escalation of war, we must respond by escalating our protest. Only through continued resistance in the case of invasion can we ensure an earlier end to needless military aggression and bloodshed. We must draw attention in our community to the injustice of this war and also send a powerful message to the Bush administration that business cannot go on as usual while our government attacks a nation without justification -- that the onset of war will not subdue our opposition, but only strengthen it.

HIPJ therefore urges you to join thousands of others across the country in walking out of our classes and into the streets at 12:30pm on the first weekday after war officially begins. We will converge at the John Harvard Statue and demonstrate against the invasion.
