Martin Eiermann - Captain '10

Benjamin Tuyp - LP '10

This is the fun side of Harvard rowing. The LP is a team official charged with maintaining the Protocol; he enforces rules on good behavior, and ensures good relations with the local River Gods. This is a critical office for the team -- without the benevolence of the River Gods, the Charles would surely stay frozen well into July. We're not very fond of staying inside all spring, so we take this sort of thing very seriously.

The LP creates the Rules of Protocol every year, drawing them from tradition and experience. These rules officially discourage behavior that we find unacceptable. In past years, activities such as tanning on the dock or having a birthday have been frowned upon by the LP. The punishment for infractions is very simple: the offender is summarily hauled down to the nearest river and thrown in as a "sacrifice." Naturally, everything is subject to LP's discretion: i.e., if LP wants to wear Radciffe unis in practice, then LP does just exactly that. And he often does.

Hailing from the lush green mountains of Canada's pacific coast, Benjamin James Tuyp of Vancouver assumes the position of LP for the class of 2010. A rower by nature and a hooligan by necessity, Ben looks this year to impart his endless wisdom upon the rest of the HVL clan. However, success in arousing the enthusiastic spirits of HVL while appeasing the river gods will not come without a price. An unfailing fun-loving spirit and the willpower to ignore his infatuation with baked goods are both necessary if Ben is to succeed as LP'10.

BJT LP continues a recent streak of LPs, starting with the rule of JK LP'04, continuing with the despotic and reclusive MKLP dynasty of '05-'06, and proceeding with MABLP '07, MYLP '08 and EKLP '09. Do expect Ben to continue their tradition of manly deeds, scholarship, and victory. Don't expect him to partake in any childish moves or juvenile antics.

Luckily, Ben has a fun-loving side, which he will call upon for his LP duties. He has an appreciation for themed parties, icy-cold beverages, hilarious dance floor performances. Above all, the LP is charged with maintaining our perspective. His office is the manifestation of our squad's well-developed sense of humor; we work hard, we go fast, and we have a great deal of fun in the process. The "fun" is an important part of the team ethic, and helps to make Harvard a rewarding place to row.
