The Lisbon Treaty will be enforced by the end of this year. The announcement was made by the Romanian president Traian Basescu, who took part in the European Union chiefs of state and of government meeting in Brussels. "There are compromise formulas which will give the Czech Republic satisfaction so that, by the end of this year, the Lisbon Treaty will be enforced", the leader from Cotroceni underlined. The president refused to comment on whom Romania was backing for the EU’s presidency, stating only that “Romania has got a strategy “and” a proposal for everything.

Renault Group business figure dropped 11% last quarter. Dacia registrations went up by 88%

Renault reported an 11% drop in their business figure for the July - September quarter. But the group claims that the result is positive, bearing in mind that in the first quarter of this year Renault's business dropped 31% and 17% in the second. During the previous quarter, Renault registration recorded an increase for the first time since the start of the crisis and Dacia registrations saw an 88% boost.

Theodor Stolojan: The Government could cut salaries and incomes for a short while

The Government has two options in managing the country's economy: either to take drastic measures and reduce the spending that does not regard salaries and pensions, or to cut pensions and salaries. PD-L vice-president Theodor Stolojan declared for Romanian radio station Realitatea FM that "cutting the salaries and pensions is an option. This is possible as well, for a brief period of time".

Romania tops economic negatives in Central and East Europe

With an 8% lower GDP in 2009, Romania gets in front of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia in a central and Eastern Europe top 10, according to a World Bank analysis published on Wednesday, October 28. Regarding the budget deficit, Romania is only behind Latvia and Lithuania. The analysis also shows that Romania is the only country of the 10 considered which adopted only one measure in response to the economic crisis, addressing the labour market, out of a 9 measures set stipulated in the document.

The European Commission opened on Thursday another infringement procedure on community law against Romania for not respecting the communitarian norms that require the separation between the regulation authorities in the telecommunications sector and the services suppliers, a European Executive report. Brussels warns that the Communications minister is regulating Romania, but simultaneously he holds shares with Romtelecom and Radiocom.

Irish judge: Roma ethnics from Romania raise their children to steal

A judge presiding over a children tribunal in Dublin, Ireland, declared after a trial that "Roma people raise their children with the intent of teaching them how to steal, apparently this is their culture, this is the way in which, unfortunately, these families function. It is a different culture, it has nothing in common with ours and our shops are constantly robbed." During the trial, a young Roma woman from Romania was accused of theft.

Fitch forecast: Romanias economy will shrink by 7.5% this year, but increase by 2% in 2010

Orange in Romania: The number of clients went up 4.8%, but incomes dropped 23% in the 3rd quarter

The number of Orange clients in Romania (no. of active SIM cards) increased to over 10.6 million users, up 4.8% against the same 2008 period and almost 340,000 more clients compared with the previous quarter. But the operator's incomes dropped 23%, according to the France Telecom group data. Orange chief Thierry Millet explains this by pointing at the deterioration of the economic environment, and tariffs regulation and decrease.
