Educational/Political Committee

The "ed-pol" of AAA seeks to organize action among the Asian American student body, through organizing events that raise the political consciousness of our peers on campus. We host informational panels, roundtable discussions, film screenings, and speaker presentations.

Ed-pol strives to promote responsible dialogue on a variety of contemporary APA issues, while acknowledging that Asian Americans subscribe to a diverse range of political beliefs. Our belief is that educational and political issues lie at the heart of AAA's history, and we are committed to continue the activist legacy of our predecessors. Past topics have included: self-segregation, affirmative action, political activism, corporate discrimination, and interracial dating.

Hey everyone,

If you want to take part in a pivotal moment in Asian American culture at Harvard, are interested in Education and Politics in general, or simply like chillin with cool people, come to one of our Ed/Pol committee meetings, Mondays at 6:30 in either the Quad or Leverett. We will be discussing our efforts to successfully establish an Asian American culture secondary field in the Harvard curriculum, a series of lectures with Professor Tang on the status of the Asian Americans and racial minorities in today's society (one of which will feature an African-American Studies professor), and a Career Panel of Asian American Harvard alumni. Come out for beautiful company, stimulating conversation, and just an overall great time. If you are interested, please send an e-mail to wchang@fas.harvard.edu Thank you and hope many of you can make it.

Sincerely,

Winston Chang and Yuting Chiang

"Mother Tongue," a short essay by Amy Tan
Quote from essay: "And my mother was standing in the back whispering loudly, 'Why he don't send me check, already two weeks late. So mad he lie to me, losing me money.'

And then I said in perfect English, 'Yes, I'm getting rather concerned. You had agreed to send the check two weeks ago, but it hasn't arrived.' "
