AAA EVENTS

Every year, the Asian American Association plans a number of events, both educational and social, for the Asian American community and for the campus at large. These include a wide range of activities, from subsidized luncheons Chinatown to career panels. Please sign up for the AAA mailing list if you are interested in being notified about these events.

Coffeehouse
A celebration of contemporary Asian American culture
......................................................................

Our annual Coffeehouse, planned by the Cultural Committee, features a host of undergraduate Asian American performers in a laid-back atmosphere. The event is free and open to the public, and accompanied by and abundant variety of Chinatown pastries and bubble tea.

Asian American Lecture Series
......................................................................

In the 2007-2008 school year, AAA was honored to host two lectures by Professor Eric Tang, who spoke about Asian American Studies and about Afro- Asian encounters in America. These lectures explored the meaning of "Asian American" and the importance of celebrating one's own identity and coming to understand it.
If you are interested in these issues, signing up for the AAA mailing list is a good way to participate in discussions with others who are concerned with the same issues.

Identities
A charity fashion show
......................................................................

IDENTITIES is a charity fashion show aimed at showcasing student design and exploring the intersection between culture and fashion, with themes ranging from hip-hop to Harajuku to androgyny. The second annual show, in the 2007-2008 school year, featured designer clothing from boutiques, original design work by Harvard students, and dance performances. All profits go to support victims in need of disaster relief.

Asian American Career Panel
......................................................................

Our career panel in the 2007-2008 school year, organized by the Outreach Committee, brought Asian American professionals from many walks of life to talk to students about their experiences. The speakers, ranging from the CEO of a startup company to the Assistant Director of Admissions at Harvard law School, openly and honestly described the unique situations facing Asian Americans in the workplace, from how to address the expectations of parents to dealing with workplace discrimination.

Social and Cultural Events
......................................................................

The Social and Cultural Committees work hard to plan various social events for the Asian Americans community. These subsidized events included catered social dinners, a karaoke night in Chinatown, a trip to Chinatown for Dimsum, cultural cooking workshops, and a picnic in the Yard.

Pan-Asian BBQ and Crush
Welcoming new members of the Asian American community at Harvard
......................................................................

During Prefrosh weekend, the Asian American Association annually takes part in a Pan-Asian Association barbecue out in front of the Science Center, helping to feed and greet prospective members of the incoming freshman class. AAA also helps plan a dance party called Crush every year during the same "prefrosh" weekend. ..............................................................................
