May / June: Spiritual Disciplines & Spiritual Growth
Read two of the following books:
How People Grow by Drs. Cloud and Townsend
The Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence
Celebration of Discipline by Richard Foster
The Pursuit of God by A.W. Tozer
Write an informational, practical paper. Partial and runon sentences, direct quotes from books, and other 'errors' are fully appropriate. Answer the questions: What did I learn? How can I apply this to my life? How will this help me serve other students? Forget the eloquent nonsense, just be straight-up real about what was learned and how you plan to apply it.
June/July: Discipleship
Read two of the following books:
The Masterplan of Evangelism by Robert Coleman
An unstoppable force by Erwin McManus
The Purpose-Drive Life by Rick Warren
Organic Church by Neil Cole
The Shaping of Things to Come by Alan Hirsch
The Forgotten Ways by Alan Hirsch
Organic Community by Joseph Myers
Write an informational, practical paper summarizing what was learned and how it can be applied, as above.
July/August: Evangelism and Justice
Read two-three of the following books (at least one on evangelism and justice each)
More Ready Than You Realize by Brian McLaren
The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel
Reasonable Faith by William Lane Craig
Compassion, Justice and the Christian Life by Bob Lupton
Ministries of Mercy by Tim Keller
Good News About Injustice by Gary Haugen
Write an informational, practical paper summarizing what was learned and how it can be applied, as above.
Send three papers to me by August 31st and confirm the reading of at least six books and, as a token of respect, honoring your hard work, I'll give you a $25 gift certificate to Starbucks (or another local Harvard Square restaurant of your choosing). Also, you get DQ'd if you pick all the shortest books or count books you've already read--that's completely against the spirit of this challenge.
