Fall 2014 Audition Information
The Holden Choruses will hold preliminary auditions at the following times. Auditions are about 10 minutes each, and you do not need to prepare anything in advance, so we encourage anyone who is interested to try out! Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
Auditions will take place from 6:00 to 9:00 pm in the basement of Memorial Hall (the building that contains Sanders Theatre and Annenberg), on the following days:
- Tuesday, September 2
- Wednesday, September 3
- Thursday, September 4
- Sunday, September 7
- Monday, September 8
We also encourage you to attend an open rehearsal in Lowell Lecture Hall (north of Memorial Hall, across Kirkland Street) on Tuesday, September 2 from 4:15 to 6:30 PM.
The Holden Choruses (Collegium Musicum, Harvard Glee Club, and Radcliffe Choral Society), the Harvard-Radcliffe Chorus, and the Choir in Progress (CHIP) hold auditions each year at the start of the fall semester for undergraduate or graduate students of Harvard University. The process begins with preliminary auditions. This audition takes place privately with our conductor, and its purpose is to evaluate vocal ability/quality, musicianship, and musicality. It consists of basic vocal exercises, ear training exercises, and a short sight-reading excerpt.
If you are accepted at this stage to the Holden Choruses, you will be asked to attend a rehearsal for both choirs with singers of your gender. At these “mob” rehearsals, you will learn the piece of music that has been chosen for the quartet audition, alongside returning singers, and get a glimpse of the the musical and social aspects of the group.
The final step in the process is the quartet audition, in which you will sing the audition piece with three returning members on the other parts. After we consider all aspects of the audition process, including a “preference form” from the candidate, we will place you into one of the Holden Choruses.
If you have any questions regarding the Collegium, don’t hesitate to email our manager Taylor Weary at email@example.com.
We look forward to meeting you at auditions!
