Information for Authors

Deadline: The deadline for submissions for the Spring 2009 issue of the Review is February 3rd, 2009.

Manuscripts can also be submitted electronically via hrp [AT] hcs.harvard.edu . Electronic submission is greatly preferred; if you choose to submit by post, we ask that you include a floppy disk or a compact disk containing the file.

Requirements: The Review only accepts submissions that have never before been published in their current form. However, the Review will accept submissions that have been circulated in unpublished formats such as on websites and as lectures. The Review will also consider published papers that have been translated into English or modified substantially since their original publication. For all papers that have been published in a previous form, please include a copy and full citation of the previously published paper with the submission. All submissions must be in English. There is no maximum or minimum length for submissions, although the average length of accepted articles in the past has been about 25 pages double-spaced. The Review asks that authors refrain from submitting their paper to other publications while it is being considered by the Review, and/or withdraw their submission from other journals upon its acceptance by the Review.

Format: Articles should be double-spaced with 1" margins and 12 point font. All articles are reviewed blindly, so we ask that the author's name appear only on the first page of the manuscript and not in the body of the work. We are not fussy about citation formatting, but when possible we do ask that authors format their references thusly:

Book (single author): Full Name [Last, First], Title of Book (City: Publisher, date), page number.
Book (edited volume): Full Name [Last, First], Title of Book, eds. Full Name and Full Name, trans. Full Name (City: Publisher, date), page number.
Article: Full Name [Last, First], "Title of Article," Title of Journal Volume (Year): page number.

The Review reserves the right to republish all accepted submissions. This includes but is not limited to future issues of the journal, the journal's online archives, and future books published by the Review. Authors retain all other rights to their submissions including the right to republish their submissions in other journals and books once the submission has appeared in the Review.
