The process is reasonably simple. Please do not skip any steps or this will result in confusion, disorder, unhappiness, a decline in family values, skyrocketing unemployment rates, and the eventual collapse of the solar system.
STEP ONE. Gather together the books you wish to donate to the HRSFA library.
STEP TWO. E-mail the person in charge of the library (if you know who this is) or else the internal secretary (who may be the person in charge of the library). In this e-mail, please include the following information on every book you are donating: title, author(s) (or editors if it's a collection), format (paperback, hardcover, etc), series (if applicable), position in series (likewise if applicable), and any pertinent comments (missing cover, etc).
STEP THREE. Here you have options. You can either ship the books to someone in Cambridge (if you don't live here) or bring them to the library yourself. Directions to the library can be found on the main library page.
STEP FOUR. If you're not in Cambridge, get someone else to do the remaining steps. Make out an index card for each book; there should be blanks in the library. Include all the information you put in the e-mail, plus your own name as the donor (unless you're embarrassed to admit you're donating yet another copy of a Xanth novel).
STEP FIVE. Stamp the first page of each book with the "Property of HRSFA" stamp which should be in the library.
STEP SIX. Put the index cards in the appropriate places in the card catalogues (green boxes). They are alphabetized by title, not author.
STEP SEVEN. Shelve the books in the appropriate places on the shelves. They are alphabetized by author, not title. Media tie-ins, Dragonlance and its ilk, anthologies, gaming books, comics, and videos are by the door, not with the general collection.
Congratulations! You have now joined that elite cadre of people who have increased HRSFA's holdings.
