Programs and Services:
  • Work Contract Program: In the winter of 1990-91, in order to move beyond temporary solutions to homelessness, the Shelter established the program now known as the work-contract program, to provide more intensive assistance to guests making the transition from homelessness to independent living.  Guests are provided with long-term beds, save money towards housing, and actively search for housing.
  • Resource Center: Volunteers man and maintain a resource center every evening where all guests can have their questions about community resources such as healthcare, housing, documentation, and food answered.
  • Computer and printer use with internet connection
  • One washer and dryer for guest use
  • Blankets and food available at the door for guests and non-guests; guests receive breakfast and dinner
  • If no beds are available at HSHS, staff will make referrals to other area shelters upon request. T-tokens are available for referrals to other shelters only, and there is a 3 tokens per week limit per guest.
