Yon Lee attended Brandeis University and the Graduate School of Physics at Northeastern University, and was an Overseas Scholar at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. For seven years he served as the Mayor's Liaison to the Asian community for the Mayor of Boston in the Flynn and Menino administrations. In May 1997 Master Lee was elected National Director of Collegiate Services of the U.S. Martial Arts Association. During a visit by world famous martial arts movie star Jackie Chan to Harvard, Master Lee and the kung fu team played as official greeters to the 2001 Artist of the Year. A full feature story on Master Lee’s teaching appeared in the Harvard Gazette on May 24, 2001. During January 2006, Master Lee led a pilgrimage of Harvard students to China and visited the venerable Shaolin Temple in Songshan Mountains in Dengfeng City in Henan Province. A recepirocal visit by the Mayor of Dengfeng City and the former Chief Secretary of the Shaolin Temple Charity of China took place at Adams House to formalize an annual Harvard Shaolin cultural exchange in May 2006 for Harvard students. Master Lee now divides his time teaching kung fu, tai chi and chi kung at Harvard, and assemblying the many teams to form a Shaolin Temple Center of Excellence and university in the Boston area as well as working towards getting tai chi and chi kung recognized and certified as an alternative health tool by the medical and healthcare communities through a standardization of the teaching of tai chi and chi kung. |
