Season Recap
The 2011-2012 competition has come and gone with some excitement and some disappointment. In the second division tournament, Harvard once again pulled out second behind Northeastern, qualifying for the regional tournament at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. There, 8 teams faced off against each other to determine the top 3 that would qualify for nationals.
In an unexpected turn of events, Harvard was pitted against its year-long rival, Northeastern, and squeezed out a victory in 5 matches, with 4/5 matches nail-biting five-gamers. Up against former rival Brown, the Harvard team faced defeat and came away with 4th place. No nationals for this year, but sure was an interesting season.
Practice Canceled This Week for Varsity Events
We are sorry to report that both Wednesday and Sunday practices are canceled due to varsity sport events. We’ll be back in full force next week! Stay tuned!
Welcome Back!
Back to more regular updates! The first practice of the Spring semester came and went yesterday (Wednesday) with an excellent turnout. Practice days will be the same as in the fall, but note the change in Sunday times:
Wednesdays 8-10 pm
Sundays 5-7 pm
See you on the court soon!
2011
Season Recap
In the first semester tournament of the NCTTA New England 2 Division on November 5th, Harvard’s co-ed team finished second behind old rivals Northeastern. Harvard’s women’s team faced the reborn MIT women’s team in a 1-3 loss. The next tournament of the season will be February 5th. Stay tuned!
We now interrupt the regular programming for a month-long winter break.
Group picture tonight
Practice will be delayed until 8:15 tonight for a club picture session at 7:48 at the Yearbook Office (2 Brattle Square). Everyone is welcome to come to both!
No Practice This Sunday, October 9th
Due to a ballroom event this Sunday, we will not be holding regular practice. See you next Wednesday!
Ladder Results are up for Wednesday, Sept 21st
Those who competed in ladder matches last Wednesday will see changes in their original rankings. Anyone and everyone can still join the ladder–just show up to practice ready to challenge!
First Practice
Our first practice has finally been scheduled! Join us Wednesday, September 14th from 8-9:45 pm for some serious pong (seriously) on the 4th floor of the MAC.
We’ll bring the tables and balls (and some paddles), you bring your game. Get ready.
(and while you’re at it, add our GCal so you’ll never miss another practice.)
Welcome Back!
Welcome to a new school year! We’re currently in the process of getting this year’s practice schedule, but rest assured they’ll be up within two weeks. Like last year, we’re expecting one practice on a weeknight and one on a weekend afternoon.
In the meanwhile, visit the table tennis booth at the Activities Fair this afternoon 4-7 pm and play on our mini-table!
We’ll see you at the MAC soon!
Have a great Summer Break!
The club is on summer break until September when we’ll pick up a new practice schedule. Until then, hope everyone is enjoying a relaxing break or hitting up their local (table tennis) clubs!
If you’re on campus, check out the dorm playing tables or e-mail the social mailing list!
We’re Hosting a Tournament!
The Club is running the first ever Harvard Open Table Tennis Tournament on April 30th.
We’ll be using the Ratings Central ratings system with the following events:
Open
U-1800
U-1500
U-1200
Unrated
Registration information is now available
Hope you will join us in making this first Harvard-hosted tournament a success!
No More Sunday Practices for the Semester
The MAC has various tournaments scheduled on all of the weekends for the rest of the semester (after April 3rd), so we will no longer have Sunday practices.
We are trying to work out another scheduled time, and we’ll keep you updated.
Spring Break
Have a great Spring break everyone!
We’ll be back with more pong than ever in a week.
Harvard’s Going to Nationals!!
After a long five year hiatus, Harvard’s co-ed team is finally going to nationals!
The Harvard team placed a close second behind reigning champion Brown, but thanks to increase in division size this season, two teams qualify for the championships this year.
The big event’s April 15-17, and the team’s going to be training hard this coming month.
Women’s Team has qualified for Nationals!
With a 4-0 record over the season, Harvard’s first women’s team qualified for nationals at BU’s regional tournament this past Saturday. Check out the details here
The Co-ed team result is going to be a nail-bitter; stay tuned!
Irregular Hours this Week
Due to some unforeseen circumstances (i.e. another volleyball tournament), we’ll be having unofficial practices this week on Saturday and Monday. Saturday we’ll be in the MAC from 2-4 pm, and either Monday and Wednesday evening.
Sorry about the inconvenience; we’re doing our best to bring the best and most frequent ping-pong possible to you.
(this might be a good time to subscribe to the social mailing list to find practice partners in this time of hardship)
Spring Practice– SUNDAY, January 23rd
Welcome back folks!
Due to a Volleyball tournament all-day Tuesday, we will be holding the first practice of the Spring Semester TODAY, JANUARY 23RD at 4 pm.
Spring Practice hours will remain the same as in the fall (Tues 8-9 pm, Sun 3:30-6:30 pm). As always, we remain on the 4th floor of the MAC.
Come join us whether you’ve been playing table tennis all your life, or you’ve never picked up a paddle.
