Thomas G. Everett, Conductor
Celebrating his 35th year on the Harvard faculty, Thomas G. Everett has been director of the Harvard Wind Ensemble, Harvard Ceremonial Music, advisor to the Harvard University Band, and founder of the Harvard Jazz Bands nd the Harvard Summer Pops Band. He is a graduate of the Ithaca College Conservatory of Music and studied with renowned trombone teacher Emory Remington at the Eastman School of Music. He has held teaching positions at Phillips Academy, Brown University, and the New England Conservatory. As a noted bass trombonist, he has performed with the Bolshoi Ballet, the Boston Pops, the Portland (Maine) Symphony, and the jazz bands of Tommy Dorsey, Dizzy Gillespie, and Ray Charles. He is the founder and first president of the International Trombone Association and has performed solo in Carnegie Hall as well as premiering in recital over thirty works for bass trombone. He has taught master classes at Indiana University; the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest; Oslo, Norway; Belgium; Dominican Republic; and the International Trombone Workshop. In 1989, the Hungarian government presented him with the Artijus Award for outstanding performance of Hungarian music. He also conducted the first program of American Wind Music live on Hungarian radio. Mr. Everett has been a conductor, adjudicator, and soloist throughout the United States, Europe, and the former Soviet Union. He was conductor for J.J. Johnson's The Brass Orchestra (Verve CD) which was nominated for three Grammy awards. An associate of the Department of Music, he has presented programs with composers Henry Brant, Vincent Persichetti, Karel Husa, Norman Dello Joio, Ulysses Kay, Leslie Bassett, Peter Schickele, Daniel Pinkham, and Gunther Schuller.
