Harvard College Initiative for International Development

Our Mission.

Dear Students,

The IMPACT Summit 2006, started by HIDO (Harvard International Development Organization), was created with the goal of

· educating the student body in pressing issues relating to development,

· recognizing the past and future contributions of youth as advocates and leaders for change, and

· energizing college youth in the fight for a better world.

This February will mark the first year of the IMPACT summit, a collaborative undergraduate-led event that we hope will become an annual tradition, a jump-off point for a student movement, and a time of learning, inspiration, leadership, and activism.

This 5-day event will include panels featuring world experts, professors, advocates, & doctors; educational and hands-on activite, art exhibits, & film screenings; and other opportunities to learn how the youth of today can get involved in this fight and BE THE IMPACT. We recognize that “International Development” can often be a daunting & elusive issue; however, through this summit and future HIDO events we hope to bring hope and energy back to this fight; to encourage collaboration, creativity, and resolve between students; and to provide real opportunities for any student who cares about these issues to get involved—no matter who you are or what experience you may have.

Everyone has a place in this summit.

We hope you will be challenged, inspired, moved, and motivated.

Please Join US.

Want to get involved in IMPACT?

We have been thrilled and encouraged by the number of students that have approached over the past couple weeks asking to get involved in this summit. This kind of collaboration and energy is exactly what we were looking to achieve through our summit. If you are someone that would like to get more involved, we will definitely be needing help with advertising and helping to make the events run smoothly (passing out brochures, ushers, etc.)

I would like to call on young people to commit themselves to activities that contribute towards achieving their long-term dreams. They have the energy and the creativity to shape a sustainable future. To the young people I say, you are a gift to your communities and indeed the world
