The
goal was to learn about the programs existing for children infected/affected
by HIV/AIDS, to recognize the gaps in the services (what's still needed
to contribute immeadiately and in the future)
This was an independent qualitative
research project. We
designed our own agenda and goals, raised our own funds, designed
survey. We learned about qualitative research methods.
The project: Met 25 diverse NGOs, a few governmental agencies,.
Interviewed them about their services, their opinion on relevant
issues. Read relevant literature, observed their programs, spent some
time with the children of the program, engaged in cooperative projects. Results:
Authored, printed, and distributed "Hand in Hand: Issues
and innovations in caring for AIDS affected children (Available on
the web). Presentation involving community members
in children's care at national AIDS conference. Initiated networking and advocacy forum in a city for inidividuals
and organizations that work with these children. Knowledgeable about relevant successes, challenges,
and issues in the HIV/AIDS field as it affects India. |
