Auditions
All Harvard Undergraduates are welcome to audition for the opportunity to play in one of the jazz bands. Auditions are held in the fall of the year during Freshmen Orientation Week and throughout the year by appointment.
Audition requirements consist of the following:
- Play a chromatic scale demonstrating your technical ability, range, and tone quality.
- Play a jazz tune or head of your choosing.
- Sight read excerpts from big band charts.
- Improvising along with a CD recording of a rhythm section provided at the audition. Improvising is an option.
Rhythm Section auditions are held in a group setting jam session format.
Auditions for the 2009-2010 season have been completed but any musicians interested in joining can arrange for an audition throughut the year year by call the band office or contacting one of the directors.
