Vocal Masterclass with Amanda Forsythe, Soprano

You are invited to observe internationally acclaimed soprano Amanda Forsythe as she leads a masterclass on singing in opera, featuring several undergraduate students of the Lowell House Opera. Harvard undergraduates Marina Connelly ’12, Lily Kass ’10, and Francesca Reindel ’11 will sing arias from Handel’s Rinaldo, Donizetti’s La fille du régiment, and other operas. Ms. Forsythe, who has been praised by Opera News for her “light and luster,” “wonderful agility and silvery top notes,” has performed at the Rossini Festival in Pesaro, the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, and will make her debut at Covent Garden this season. Also a frequent soloist with symphony orchestras, she has sung recently with the Calgary Philharmonic (Golijov’s Ainadamar) and L’Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de México (Mahler Symphony No 2). A resident of Cambridge, she is well known to area opera audiences, most recently for her performances of Minerve and La Grande Prêtresse on The Boston Early Music Festival’s premiere recording of Lully’s Thésée, a “Best Opera Recording” nominee for the 2008 Grammy™ Awards, and her début with Opera Boston as The Angel in the North American premiere of Peter Eötvös’s opera Angels in America, a performance that the critics hailed as “gorgeous” (Musical America), “heavenly” (The Boston Herald), “radiant” (The Financial Times), “brilliant” (Opera News) and “powerfully sung” (The New York Times).
