MSO's Current Music Director
Edward Jones (2007-2009)
Ed Jones is the interim Music Director and Conductor of the Mozart Society Orchestra at Harvard University. The 2007-2008 season marked his first season in this post, but his performances elsewhere have won wide acclaim with audiences and musicians alike.
After serving as Music Director of the Cambridge University Symphony Orchestra ten years ago, Jones directed the Harvard Early Music Society. He went on to become the assistant conductor for four New York City groups: The Bronx Symphony Orchestra, Regina Opera Company, The Mannes Orchestra, and The Mannes Opera; before serving as Music Director of the Reykjavik Summer Opera Festival.
In recent years, Jones has also guest conducted for choruses and orchestras in Boston and New York: The Fiammetta Ensemble, Vox Consort, and the Handel and Haydn Society Orchestra. He is currently Assistant Conductor and Chorus Master of Opera Boston, as well as University Choirmaster and Organist at Memorial Church. Jones's involvement in the Harvard community has given him an intricate knowledge of the music scene, and we are excited to begin this new season with him at the helm.
Jones holds his Master of Music in Orchestral Conducting from the Mannes School of Music and Master of Arts from Emmanuel College at Cambridge University. He has also studied at both Harvard University and the New England Conservatory of Music.
