Gear policy:

HOC gear is available for personal use by any HOC member.* The procedure for checking out gear is as follows:

  1. Come to an office hour at 15 Linden St.
  2. Find the gear you want to check out.
  3. Enter your contact info and the date you're checking things out into our gear spreadsheet.
  4. File a DEPOSIT CHECK with the HOC for the replacement cost of the gear borrowed.
  5. Amble out of the HOC with your newly borrowed gear tucked under your arm.

*Gear may be rented for non-members under a member's name for a small fee, approximately 5-10% of the cost of the item. Inquire for prices at one of our meetings or at office hours.

The HOC will not cash your deposit check; it is an insurance policy to make sure you return the gear and don't take off with it to Vanuatu. We rip up your check when you return the gear.  The HOC will only cash your deposit check in cases of extreme negligence or willful destruction resulting in damage to HOC property.
