About the Pitches: Auditions FAQs
Below are some questions frequently asked by auditionees, and other questions can always be answered by emailing pitches@pitches.org.

What experience is necessary to try out for the Pitches?
None. We're listening for how you sound, not how much you have sung.

What if I don't know my voice part?
No problem-- we'll evaluate that for you during auditions.

How often does the group rehearse?
We have a standard three rehearsals each week for a total of six hours a week, with rehearsal time increasing as we approach a concert.

Any other commitments besides rehearsal?
Performances-- concerts and gigs. These are amazing opportunities to share music with an audience, and they often help with group expenses like travel.

Do you ever perform for benefits/charity causes?
Yes. We perform for benefits every year, both locally and on international tours.

Can I be in the Pitches and in a Holden Choir or University Choir?
Yes. We are compatible with Holden Choirs and the University Choir, and we have members who participate in both.

What happens if I want to try out for other a cappella groups?
If you've been called back to more than one group during fall auditions, we'll coordinate with them so that you can attend all of your auditions. Spring auditions are held at the discretion of the individual a cappella groups, so we cannot promise that we will be able to coordinate with another group.

How does being in an all female group compare to co-ed settings?
Many of us come from experience in co-ed music settings and love singing with the Pitches. In the end, the best thing to do is feel this out for yourself during the auditions process.

How often/where do you travel?
We travel throughout the Boston and New England areas for gigs. Every year we go on an international tour to Bermuda during spring break. In recent years we have also toured to other international destinations, including Spain in 2003 and Asia in 2004 & 2006.

How much do the tours cost for individual group members?
They don't cost anything beyond the price of meals. By fundraising throughout the year and during the tour, the group is able to provide transportation and accommodations (and occasionally meals) at no cost to individual members.

What is your affiliation with the Hasty Pudding Club?
The group was founded at the Hasty Pudding in 1975. Currently, members of the Pitches can choose to join the Hasty Pudding Social Club if they wish.
