As a pre-med, we encourage you to get as much information on medical schools and the admissions process as possible. Below you'll find a number of comprehensive resources both within and outside of Harvard - as well as some "odds-and-ends" we think you'll find helpful in your premed career!

The Harvard Office of Career Services (OCS) has one of the most complete sets of Career Resources for Premeds, including workshops, guides on how and when to apply, information on medical careers and contact information for premedical advisors within OCS. Be sure to speak with Premedical Counselors Lee Ann Michelson and Jeff Glenn.

The Bureau of Study Counsel (BSC) offers peer counseling, peer tutoring, workshops and reading and learning strategy programs. They also maintain an extensive list of Online Resources to help students find a working study strategy, deal with anxiety, motivate themselves, take effective notes and improve their college careers as a whole.

Dr. Susan Blumenthal, Former U.S. Surgeon General and past HPS Guest Speaker, offers a website with health related resources here.

Receive Credit for Internships

As you progress with your search for a summer internship, many of you will encounter situations where the employer asks if your school will grant you credit for the internship.

Harvard does not offer credit for workplace internships with the exception of a few cases where the internship is a required component of a course.  For example, some Study Abroad courses include internship experiences as well as select departmental courses that requires a "field placement" which can be fulfilled with an internship.

For students pursuing summer internships, there is always the option to incorporate some of the experience gained during the internship into a larger body of research that would constitute a Course of Independent Study in the future.  To learn more about Independent Study, click here.
If you are in good academic standing and you will be returning to the College in the semester following your internship, OCS will provide you with a letter explaining Harvard's policy and confirming that you are eligible to receive academic credit for an independent study project based in part on the internship. In order to obtain this letter, you will need to do the following:  Ask your Residential Dean to write a brief letter stating your class year, the fact that you are in good\n academic standing, and that you will be returning to the College the semester following your internship. Bring the letter from your Residential Dean to OCS along with a description of the internship.   Once OCS receives the letter and\n internship description, an internship policy document will be prepared and you will be notified about when you may pick it up from the pick-up box in the OCS Reception area. If you plan to apply to multiple internships, please make copies of the original letter so that you do\n not need to request additional letters.
