SOLIDARITY WITH HARVARD WORKERS' LIVING WAGE CAMPAIGN Submitted by: Professional Staff Congress
WHEREAS, NYSUT stands for solidarity under the banner of "An Injury to One is An Injury to All," and
WHEREAS, students, faculty and staff are pressing Harvard University's administration to adopt a "Living Wage" of $10.25/hour minimum for all employees, including those employed by sub-contractors, similar to one passed by the Cambridge City Council in 1999, and
WHEREAS, many of Harvard's staff of janitors, food service workers, groundkeepers and others who maintain the university, now earn less than needed to provide the necessities of life for their families, and WHEREAS, Harvard it the nation's wealthiest university with an endowment of nearly $20 billion,
THEREFORE, be it resolved that NYSUT lend its strong moral support through this resolution and recommend that Board of Directors allocate an appropriate sum of money in support of the campaign.
