Check-Ins!

Week-In-Review

Grant Workshop Success: Both general members and board members came, and it was especially great for the board to become familiar with what makes a successful grant. The event forced us to think tangibly about executing our events and the purpose of them.

Membership Forms: Everyone who filled out the form should have been contacted. The form will remain open throughout the semester, and please keep the fantastic feedback coming!

Upcoming Events

Event with Chong-Suk Han, co-sposorship with AAA: Professsor Han would talk about the intersectionality of being East Asian and Queer. AAA wants Professor Han’s speech to be very brief (~15 minutes), and then open it up for questions. We should consider whether or not we want to have multiple professors/speakers and make it into a panel.

National Coming Out Day: Ticknor Lounge, Boylston Hall, 7-9 PM, October 11th. We want a diverse group of people to commit to be speakers beforehand, and we will also welcome walk-ons. Open-mic combined with a coffeehouse, but more casual and with no mic. There will be food! Potential issues: Oct. 11th is also a gala for National Latino Month, and the day before parents arrive for Freshmen Parent’s Weekend.

LGBTQ Dating Panel: Ivel Posada, Linda Buehler, Lynne Peskoe, Griffin Gaffney, and possibly Tevin Colbert will be panelists. Philip will moderate. Set in Ticknor Lounge. Still need to set a date/time. The topics will be online dating sites, tips for how to use them, things the panelists would have done differently, weird/creepy experiences and how to avoid them. Open up for questions at the end.

Harvey Milk Film Screening & Vigil: Watch the Harvey Milk movie, and then immediately afterward have a vigil on the steps of Memorial Church for Tyler Clementi. Time and date TBD, but likely this October in memory of the suicides that occurred at the same time 2010.

Wrap-Up Activity

Discussion (wide-ranging and philosophical!) on gender and sexuality in everyday life, led by Ivel Posada and Ben DeVore.
