From 7pm to 7am, Room 13 is staffed by two students every night during the school year. We take people and their concerns seriously; we will listen and respond non-judgmentally. When you call or drop by, no one will pressure you to talk about anything you don't want to. You can feel free to ask to talk to just a female or male counselor, or both. You don't need an appointment, and we don't record your name. Room 13 will maintain strict confidentiality, meaning we don't tell friends, senior tutors, proctors, or administrators about what we talk about.

Room 13 is staffed entirely by Harvard undergraduate students: sophomores, juniors and seniors. Our counselors are selected by the staff of the previous year for their caring, friendliness, and open-mindedness. The staff consists of about 35 men and women with different racial, economic, and ethnic backgrounds. We all have different interests and goals, live in different houses, and focus in a variety of concentrations. We want to help other people at Harvard.

Although it is strictly a volunteer organization, Room 13 counselors receive extensive training in many aspects of counseling and peer relations. We are ready to hear about and help with an extraordinary variety of concerns and issues large or small.

We offer a supportive, sympathetic ear and maintain strict confidentiality. We can talk about anything that's on your mind, and we won't criticize you or pass any judgments. We don't claim to have any easy answers, but sometimes it helps just to talk to someone who is attentive and truly cares about what you have to say.

We can talk to you on the phone or in person, if you need to get away to a quiet, relaxed setting. And if you don't feel like talking, you're welcome to just drop by, sit down, relax and have some cookies.
