Activism Historically


The Radcliffe Union of Students has been a major source of activism and advocacy on campus.  Here is a very incomplete list of some of the projects RUS has headed at Harvard.

past projects

–Brought Take Back the Night to Harvard (see archival websites for TBTN: 1998, 1999, 2001, and 2006). TBTN is a week-long series of events on sexual and domestic violence that takes place in April.
Created an abortion fund in 1976, just three years after Roe v. Wade
–Campaign to create Harvard College Women’s Center (view original proposal)
–Hosts Female Orgasm Seminar each spring (2008 mention on Rush Limbaugh radio show: listen)
Sponsored a series of lectures on the psychology of sex in 1975
–Arranged a large summit about Women on Harvard’s Campuses in the fall of 2000, involving groups from many of Harvard’s graduate schools, as well as the college
Began a peer mentoring program in 1993
