(1) WORKING WITH COALITION AGAINST SEXUAL VIOLENCE TO PUSH FOR CHANGES IN HARVARD'S SEXUAL ASSUALT POLICY
Why is there so little mandatory first year orientation (ONLY 15 MINUTES) on sexual assault at Harvard? Why do the people who determine ADD/DROP also make decisions about rape? Why does Harvard have no trained professional available 24-hours to deal with student concerns? Colleges all across the country have rape crisis centers - why not Harvard?
(2) MAKING THE STUDENT BODY MORE AWARE OF THE REALITY OF FINAL CLUBS AND LACK OF FEMALE-OWNED SPACE AT HARVARD
RUS discussions last semester about final clubs had a lot to do with ideas and less to do with action. What became clear is that while we might not be able to shut down our not-so-favorite party spaces, we can work to change student perceptions about them. Our main action will be to create a pamphlet to distribute to up-coming first years about Final Clubs: their history, their policies, their traditions, and the fact that a significant number of sexual assualt cases occur in Final Clubs. This will make a big difference towards de-mystifying Final Clubs, thus degrading their power! We will also consider planning an event pre-frosh weekend about final clubs.
