Stephen Greenblatt, the chairman of Harvard’s Task Force on the Arts, recently e-mailed the student body, asking for their thoughts on “ways to make the practice and study of the arts a more integral and prominent part of the University’s mission.” While the chairman’s overtures are welcome, University President Drew Gilpin Faust created the task force on November 1, 2007—almost an entire year ago. An Obama presidency would be a heavy burden on the economy

Barack Obama claims to be the candidate of “change.” He advocates a “new politics” that abandons Washington’s cutthroat environment in favor of bipartisanship. In fairness, his thin record indicates some willingness to cross the aisle, albeit not nearly to the extent which John McCain has. But on the economy, which is likely to be the defining issue of the 2008 election, Obama in no way advocates a “new politics,” but a redistributive, protectionist mindset typical of the Democratic Party.
