The Constitution and Bylaws of the

Harvard Shooting Club

2001 - 2002

 

Article 1 Harvard Shooting Club shall be the name of this organization.

Article 2 Purpose: To practice and compete in shooting sports, primarily, but not limited to, those of Sporting Clays, Skeetshooting and Trapshooting. To instill the highest regard for safety and sportsmanship in each member. To initiate new shooters to the shooting sports and foster an environment in which shooting can be enjoyable and safe.

Article 3 Membership: Any person affiliated with Harvard University may become a member. All members must exhibit the highest regard for the safety of other individuals and have knowledge of firearm safety. Any violation of general safety, or endangerment of life, limb, or property, is cause for immediate termination of club membership and privileges. Any officer may remove a member for safety violation.

Article 4 Officers:

Captain – Jordan Webb
Treasurer- Jon Gattman
Web Master – Eric Tulla

President- Presides at all meetings, oversees general operations of the club, insures that all regulations are obeyed and that necessary papers are filed. In the absence of another officer, the president shall assume the responsibilities of the vacated position.

Captain- Assumes the position of President if necessary and runs the outings and tournaments.

Treasurer: Maintains financial records, oversees fundraising, maintains a budget.

Web Master – Updates and tends to the club web page.

Terms of Officers: The officers shall be nominated by the officers of the previous year, and elected by the general membership. An officer may be removed by a 3/4 vote of the membership.

Article 5 Elections:

    1. The officers of the club may call an election at any time, given that all members are properly notified in advance.
    2. An election can be held at any location and a majority of the membership must be present including at least one officer.
    3. Any person who has been a member of the club for at least one month is considered a voting member.
    4. Elections shall be done by secrete ballot administered by an officer.

Article 6 Meetings: Meetings may be called at any time by an officer of the club. At least one posted meeting must be held in order to inform members of new developments and encourage new members to join. Notice of meetings must be given at least three days in advance. Proposals may be made by any member, and all members have a right to vote on a proposal. A majority of the members will constitute a quorum at a meeting. If a quorum is not present, the officers shall have the authority to make necessary changes and plans for the operation of the club until such a time as a quorum can be assembled.

Article 7 All members must be proficient in the safe handling of firearms and must have, subsequent of filing membership application, been accepted for membership.

Article 8 In the occurrence that the Harvard Shooting Club remains inactive for three or more years, any Harvard Shooting Club Alumni Officer may assume possession of any or all files, residual moneys, guns or other possessions of the Harvard Shooting Club. This provision is made expressly for the purpose of continuing the shooting sports should a strict gun control climate or official University discouragement temporarily set back the noble purposes of this club.

Article 9 These Bylaws may be amended by a 3/4 vote of the members.
