The Loomis-Michael Observatory is located in the Science Center in Harvard University. It is run by students and is open to all affiliates and friends of Harvard university. It houses a 10-inch refractor telescope and is used primarily for educational and recreational purposes.
The Observatory is located on the 10th floor of Science Center. To get to the observatory, take the elevator to the 8th floor - there is a stairway that leads up to the Observatory.
If you are a member of the Harvard community, you can take the Telescope 1 class to get access to the telescope. After taking one night of this class, you get a sticker on your ID. With this you can check out the keys for the Observatory any time. We also have additional classes on amateur astronomy, if you would like to learn more.
If you do not want to go into the trouble of handling the telescope yourself, you can come to one of our open houses. Everyone is welcome to drop by and take a look through the telescopes and enjoy the view from the Science Center roof. We also have additional open houses for special occasions.
