About Thayer
Room Layout: A typical double suite in Thayer (Room 507)
We have 2 room, one larger one that is connected to the main hallway, it has: a sky window, 2 tables, 2chairs, 1 closet for clothes, 1 closed fireplace, an extra chair for guest. it is then connected to the left to the bedroom, which has another sky window and two metal beds. WE have data ports and telephone ports in both rooms ( one for each though). There is no carpet, and there are 2 ceiling lights and two standing lights for your lighting needs. actually the closets have their own lights too. My roommate and I split the rooms, each of us use one room. So in the first sem, I used the larger room, and in the second sem, I used the smaller room.
Other double- rooms in Thayer are very similar, they just differ in the relative size of the two rooms, for example, some doubles have 2 equal rooms. Thayer has an elevator, laundry room (kind'a big) and a host of rooms for clubs, organization, Harvard foundation in its basement. No lounges or study space, layout is like a hotel, with big long hallway accessible from all four sides, and rooms on both sides of the hallway. In a storey, there are bathrooms at both ends and a proctor bath room in the middle. There are 16 suites I think (excluding proctor's suite).
Thayer's Advantages:
-it is the best located, it is near to every big facilities that you need,
-for phototaking: John Harvard is right at the south entry
-libraries: Widener is across the Yard, and Lamont is just further off
-Harvard Square: walk across the yard and get out from Johnston Gate, and you will be at the Square, right by the T station
-eating: Annenberg is just outside the north entrance, and so is Science Center
-Sever is also just right across
-if you go to church, remember the Memorial Church is by the right side
-Thayer is also self-contained, with laundry and other services within itself, which helps a lot during winter times.
Disadvantages:
-Far from the Mass Ave side, far from the river houses and far from the sports facilities
-However, if you just wanna work out, you can go to the Law School gym, that is right behind the Littauer building
