Here are a few items from the talk that Chris Stubbs gave on 10/14/05. We should add more information over time because applying to grad school turns out to be really confusing and stressful!

Here are some useful books:

  • AIP publishes a list of grad programs in the physical sciences which has lots of useful information. It is online and we have the 2005 print edition in Dr. Morin's office.
  • The NAS published another useful book on Careers in Science and Engineering.
  • Finally, if you manage to become a grad student, Chris recommends Getting What You Came For, "the smart student's guide to earning a Master's or PhD", by R. L. Peters, 1997, Noonday Press.

Fellowships are good to get.

  • The NSF Fellowship is always popular.
  • There are many more but I'm too lazy to put them here right now.
