LaTeX

LaTeX is a system for typesetting documents, usually ones with lots of equations. Unlike something like Microsoft Word, LaTeX doesn't have a built-in editor. Instead, you write a specially-formatted file in a text editor, then process it with LaTeX to generate an output file.

To install LaTeX on Windows, you should download and install MiKTex. You'll then probably want to get an editor to make it easier to write LaTeX files and process them. WinEdt is a good one, and TexnicCenter has also been recommended.

If you need help learning LaTeX, see the Tutorials page

This page could use some more information on how to get started using LaTeX. If you have any questions, email physics@hcs and we'll try to answer them and add the information to the website.
