Here's a list of professors and the undergrads that are working for them at the moment. ("The moment" being March 2005.) You might email a professor who's indicated to be looking for students, or talk to one of the students listed here. The important part is for you to go out and make things happen!

George W. Brandenburg Senior Research Fellow and Director of the High Energy Physics Laboratory PhD? 1970, Harvard University

A message from Professor Brandenburg for interested students: "Thanks for you inquiry about research assistant positions at the High Energy Physics Lab (HEPL). We have five groups, all of which have had undergrads working on various projects: CDF (Franklin and Foland) which is studying proton-antiproton physics at Fermilab, MINOS (Feldman) which is looking for neutrino oscillations at Fermilab and the Soudan Mine, BABAR (Morii) which is studying CP violation in electron-positron collisions at SLAC, the ATLAS project which is building a muon detector for a future experiment at CERN's Large Hadron Collider (Huth and myself), and our new Dark Energy group (Stubbs and Franklin) which is doing R&D for upcoming astrophysics projects. You can find more information at htpp://www.hepl.harvard.edu.

The work at HEPL ranges from physics data analysis (i.e. software) to detector R&D and fabrication (i.e. hardware). There are usually jobs for students at all levels of experience. For a summer job you would be expected to work at least two months, and our term-time students typically work 10-15 hours/week.

I can't say for sure which HEPL projects currently have "openings" -- you will need to check directly with the faculty involved. You can reach everyone I mentioned above using @physics as an address. In the meantime I'd be happy to give you more details and a short tour. Send me an email if you'd like to stop by the lab sometime."
