In the spirit of these verses from Psalm 96, Under Construction has spent the past quarter century singing on Harvard's campus, around the country, and across the world, striving to glorify Him who gives us our voices. With this, our fourth CD, we seek to continue this mission. These sixteen songs express a few of the various ways in which we experience God--as Creator, Rescuer, firm Foundation, Refuge, and ultimate Desire of our souls.

We realize that our music is but a dim reflection of the inexpressible perfection of God, yet we pray that through it God might reveal Himself more clearly, to us and to our listeners.

When the founders of Harvard College dedicated themselves to studying Veritas, they left the third book in their crest face down as a declaration that man could never reach the ultimate truth on his own. Over the centuries, Harvard changed its mind--through the Enlightenment, confidence and faith in human rationality altered this search for truth. It was believed that through knowledge and progess, the truth would be completely revealed in time. Veritas was no longer in the hands of God, but well within the grasp of mankind. Harvard turned the third book face up and never looked back.

But in life, each question answered begets more questions--particularly when things happen contrary to our expectations, knowledge, or control. We who are Under Construction have found that the search for Veritas is not just about amassing knowledge, but being changed by the reality of a loving God who is beyond our comprehension. Who understands our suffering and transforms it into strength. Who hears our yearning for purpose and breathes life into our dreams. Who forgave us though we rejected Him, and instead gave up His Son in order to make us His own.

The third book remains down - and in the mystery of the truth that is out there, there exists infinite promise. And that is the truth.

After much anticipation, we are excited to present our second album, Second Story. Our hope in this recording has been to capture the idea that the Lord is building us up, bit by bit, to the glorious palace he plans for us. The music contained represents a wide variety of styles, from traditional hymns, to upbeat Christian Contemporary, to "baptized" non-Christian songs, and is sung by the '98-'99 and '99-'00 groups.
