The Undergraduate Teacher Education Program (UTEP) at Harvard University seeks academically strong and service-oriented students who are interested in public school teaching and committed to the challenges of education. This elective program combines coursework at the Graduate School of Education and field work in Boston area public schools.
Successful completion of the program requirements and a passing score on the two-part Massachusetts Test for Educator Licensure enable graduates to receive educator licensure at the middle or high school level in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the states with which Massachusetts has licensure reciprocity. Students must also fulfill concentration and Core requirements for the College.
Students can complete the UTEP requirements during their four years at the College. Alternately, students can begin UTEP during their junior or senior year and complete it during a Term After. This option allows students to graduate from the College and return the following semester as a Special Student at the Graduate School of Education. During the Term After, students complete their teaching practicum and their subject-area methods course. This option is attractive for students hoping to get licensed as a teacher who have little space in their four-year plan of study at the College.
