“The Veritones are an impressively tight group, and they sing with a ton of energy.” – Joshua Diamant, Recorded A Cappella Review Board
“One of the best collegiate tracks I’ve heard in a while, it is teeming with vitality and musical maturity.” – Jonathan Minkoff, Recorded A Cappella Review Board
Founded in 1985 by a small group of passionate undergraduates including Academy Award Winner Mira Sorvino, the Harvard-Radcliffe Veritones are one of Harvard College’s premier co-ed a cappella groups. The Veritones are known for the originality of their student-composed arrangements, their poise and stage presence, and the traditions that bring this tight-knit group together. While the Veritones are a contemporary a cappella group, their musical taste reflects the diverse interests of its members. Along with current pop hits, the Veritones have performed music spanning genres like jazz, country and indie/alternative. Along with two major performances every year in the historic Sanders Theater, the Veritones entertain at a variety of events on campus and in the greater Boston-New York area, as well as travel multiple times a year to diverse locations such as Los Angeles, Puerto Rico, Chicago, Washington DC, and England.
A passion for complex harmony and musical excellence has afforded the Veritones once-in-a-lifetime performance opportunities, including booking celebrity engagement parties, performing for Jason Alexander and Man of Steel star Henry Cavill, and performing on Harvard Campus with Bobby McFerrin. Additionally, they have recently been featured on BuzzFeed’s Top 15 Contemporary A Cappella Performances. In their hometown of Boston, the Veritones have enjoyed the privilege of performing at the Boston Public Library, the Beanpot, and the Boston Chamber of Commerce. The Veritones have been nominated for a Contemporary A Cappella Recording Award for Best Mixed Collegiate Album. In addition, they have been featured on the Best of Collegiate A Cappella and Best of Collegiate Humor A Cappella annual compilation albums.
Beyond rehearsal, the Veritones excel in a wide variety of areas on campus. Members concentrate in subjects ranging from Organismic and Evolutionary Biology to History and Literature as well as involving themselves in diverse extracurricular activites. Along with doubling as Peer Advising Fellows, Crimson Staff Writers, Law Society Presidents, and researchers in Harvard’s top laboratories, the Veritones are immensely proud of their title as defending two-time champions of the Aca-lympics, proving that they are also Harvard’s most athletic co-ed a cappella group!
Above all, the Veritones are a diverse group of Harvard students brought together by their immense passion for music and their commitment to pursuing a cappella excellence. But their unique blend is only strengthened by the love they have for each other. Becoming a Veritone is a bond for life, and members keep in touch long after Harvard’s halls have been left behind.
Once a Veritone, always a Veritone.
